Electron - positron annihilation into Dirac magnetic monopole and antimonopole : the string ambiguity and the discrete symmetries

چکیده
We address the problem of string arbitrariness in the quantum field theory of Dirac magnetic monopoles. Different prescriptions are shown to yield different physical results. The constraints due to the discrete symmetries (C and P) are derived for the process of electron-positron annihilation into the monopole-antimonopole pair. In the case of the annihilation through the one-photon channel, the production of spin 0 monopoles is absolutely forbidden; spin 1/2 monopole and antimonopole should have the same helicities (or, equivalently, the monopole-antimonopole state should be p-wave 1 P 1).

Monopole-antimonopole and Vortex Rings
The SU(2) Yang-Mills-Higgs theory supports the existence of monopoles, antimonopoles, and vortex rings. In this paper, we would like to present new exact static antimonopole-monopole-antimonopole (A-M-A) configurations. The net magnetic charge of these configurations is always negative one, whilst the net magnetic charge at the origin is always positive one for all positive integer values of th...
متن کاملCreation of Dirac monopoles in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates.
We demonstrate theoretically that, by using external magnetic fields, one can imprint pointlike topological defects on the spin texture of a dilute Bose-Einstein condensate. The symmetries of the condensate order parameter render this topological defect to be accompanied with a vortex filament corresponding to the Dirac string of a magnetic monopole. The vorticity in the condensate coincides wi...

متن کاملMonopole - antimonopole interaction in Abelian Higgs model
We consider interaction of a probe monopole-antimonopole pair in the vacuum of the Abelian Higgs model. For simplicity, the mass of the Higgs particle is assumed to be much larger than the mass of the photon (London limit). In case of a massive photon the straightforward application of the Zwanziger formalism to accommodate both magnetic and electric charges is known to result in gauge dependen...
متن کامل0 Dirac Strings and Monopoles in the Continuum Limit of SU ( 2 ) Lattice Gauge Theory
Magnetic monopoles are known to emerge as leading non-perturbative fluctuations in the lattice version of non-Abelian gauge theories in some gauges. In terms of the Dirac quantization condition, these monopoles have magnetic charge |QM | = 2. Also, magnetic monopoles with |QM | = 1 can be introduced on the lattice via the ’t Hooft loop operator. We consider the |QM | = 1, 2 monopoles in the con...
